Like a Raccoon

She couldn't believe she had accidentally thrown it out, but it wasn't until the trash was already in the bin outside that she realized what had happened. The antique necklace her grandmother had asked her to research for her was now somewhere with her garbage, and Sarah swore at herself as she dug around in the bags trying to figure out which one it could be. If it was bright out, at least she could see, but the sun was just set and the street lights weren't providing nearly enough light.

As she was ready to give up she spotted something shiny and grabbed it. It was the necklace, covered in coffee grounds, but no worse for the wear. Suddenly she was blinded by a intense light.

"What the hell are you doing? You must have some big balls to big digging around in someones trash like some sort of racoon." A heavyset man with a flashlight continued to shine it in her face, her tone and posture accusatory.

Sarah was distracted for a moment as the pendant became very hot, but then cooled back down. She felt rather odd, but tried to shake it off.

"I-its me, Sarah. Your neighbor Sarah. I, I'm digging in my own trash, I accidentally threw something away that I shouldn't have."

"Hmph... Well your making a racket out here so hurry up and be done with it, and don't leave all that garbage all over the gran or it will attract wild animals." The man stomped off back to his building leaving Sarah to clean up her mess.

As Sarah picked the trash back up the mans words kept popping up in her mind. "Like some sort of racoon" She didn't know why she couldn't stop thinking about it, but as she finished cleaning and walked back inside she started to feel quite wrong. Her ears were hot and her underwear and pants weren't fitting right. She bent down to take off her socks and felt something swoosh out behind her, as if it sprung out from her panties. Then something warm and soft tickled her leg. She spun and saw nobody behind her. She nervously reached behind her and felt something soft.

She gave the strange object a tug and yelped in pain as she felt it. Confused and alarmed she looked in her floor length mirror. She was stunned to find she now had a racoon like pair of ears and a bushy raccoon's tail. The pendant sat nearby on a stand, glowing red like the burner of a stove, but now slowly calming back down, it's magic fully spent, for now...
